Rotarians supporting the Youth and Local Charities

The Rotary Club of Katy and the Mega Stuffed (rotarians) attend the KISD FFA Rodeo Parade and Auction.  Their sole focus is to purchase animals from the kids and have the meat processed.  Once processed, then we deliver them to local charities like the Katy Chritian Ministries and Camp Hope.  It is our a joy to fill their freezers with meat.

Thank you, Kathy Alt, for being our speaker today.  Kathy Alt works at the Ballard House in Katy.  This establishment houses families of someone who is receiving treatment or waiting for a transplant.  Unfortunately, the Ballard House flooded during Hurricane Harvey.  They were able to use our contribution from Wild West Brew Fest to help rebuild.

Only a few tickets remain for this year's Flights and Bites.  You don't want to miss this amazing event!   5 course dinner at Flemings paired with unique craft beers.  As with all WWBF events, 100% of the net proceeds will be donated to various causes. On Friday night 9/28 we will donate at least 50% of the net proceeds to our first responders at the Rotary Fire Fighters Home.  The vision of this project is to provide temporary fully furnished housing to firefighters and other first responders at little or no cost while they are undergoing treatment at the Texas Med Center.

What a great Thursday meeting this past week, times like that spark a renewed understanding of why we work hard at what we do, supporting those young students is what we do!  Great job to all that helped out on that task, remember that our Triathlon is coming up and it is because of that long standing event in our community we are able to give back to the youth of Texas similar to what you say on Thursday.

Wild West Brewfest and the Katy Rotary giving back over $80,000 in 2015!

The Wild West Brewfest and the Rotary Club of Katy helps many, setting new records in and around the Katy Community!

The Wild West Brewfest 2015 was a smashing success, we took a risk by moving to Katy Mills, but we believe that this move paid off in spades for us and for our recipients said David Loesch – Chairman of the Wild West Brewfest.   “At the end of each event, we surveyed our guests; overwhelmingly the number one thing that came back as positive was the new space and the awesome selection of beer” Loesch said.

Proceeds from The Katy Triathlon benefit the scholarship fund of the Rotary Club of Katy which provides grants to graduating seniors of the Katy Independent School District and other valuable community projects. Rotary Club of Katy, founded in 1946, has raised approximately $380,000 for its community service projects since taking over the Katy Triathlon in 1998. In July, the Club will present 15 deserving Katy ISD high school graduates each with a $1,500 scholarship at its annual college scholarship luncheon.

Special meeting Thurs May 21 at Falcon Point 11:45

Please join us on May 21 for our weekly lunch at The Club at Falcon Point, 24503 Falcon Point Drive, Katy, TX 77494.

Please note our official published meeting time is 11:45 am to 1:00 pm.  The first 15 minutes is a mix and mingle time so that everyone can be seated and ready by Noon.

For speed of service and to get to our meeting without interruption, dinner salads will be preset.  You will have a a couple of choices for lunch and if you need a large salad, please let the server know.  The choices will be simple and may be a sandwich and sides and an oven cooked style of entree such as baked chicken breast.  Your selection will be taken and served.  We will not do a buffet as that seems to disrupt our meeting agenda.

Relief and recovery efforts in Nepal

Rotary.org
Gary C.K. Huang
President, 2014-15
Dear Rotarian,

We express our profound sadness and extend our sympathies to all those affected by the devastation resulting from the 25 April deadly earthquake in Nepal. Rescue missions and emergency aid continue to arrive in Nepal for the 8 million people impacted by the massive 7.8 magnitude quake.

As we mourn the thousands of lost lives, Rotary joins many international agencies in providing immediate relief to survivors and mobilizing our expertise to support long-term recovery and rebuilding efforts.

How to help:
  • District 3292, Nepal, has established a disaster relief fund to provide needed equipment and supplies to affected communities. Contact District Governor Kumar Piya for information about contributing to the fund.
  • Rotary’s service partner ShelterBox is working closely with Nepali Rotarians to coordinate immediate relief efforts. On Monday, 27 April, and Wednesday, 29 April, Rotarians greeted ShelterBox response teams in Nepal who will mobilize temporary housing and relief efforts. An initial 1,000 housing tents and 1,000 shelter kits will be distributed throughout affected communities. Two more ShelterBox relief teams and additional kits are ready to be deployed once further assessments are complete. Learn more about supporting ShelterBox’s relief efforts.
  • As with all disasters, the Rotary family may apply for global grants to support long-term recovery efforts in Nepal. Once immediate health, safety, and relief efforts have been addressed, work with local Nepali Rotary members and their international partners to develop projects within Rotary’s six areas of focus.
Monitor the announcements section of My Rotary for more information as it becomes available and do not hesitate to contact relief@rotary.org with any questions.

Our thoughts are with our Nepali neighbors during this difficult time. Thank you for continuing to Light Up Rotary through your compassion and generosity.

Yours in Rotary,

Books to Brookwood - Valentine Luncheon 2014

Posted by Edward Bland on Feb 12, 2014

Books donated in the name of our weekly guest speakers by the Club were presented to the Activities Director and several Brookwood residents for their Community Library.  Using our annual Valentine Luncheon as the backdrop, members were present to greet the residents and watch their happy acceptance of the new additions to their Library.  On the way into lunch the wrapped gift books were spotted by one of the residents who was serving in the Cafe today.  He gleefully said as he pointed to the stack, "Oh wonderful, my favorite, Scholarship Books!  I love them and read those all the time."Image

On July 25, 2013 The Rotary Club of Katy hosted a luncheon honoring their 2013 scholarship recipients.  There were 15 scholarships awarded in the amount of $1500 each for this group of outstanding Katy ISD seniors.  We had over 150 applications for these scholarships among all Katy ISD high schools.

The proceeds used to fund these scholarships comes primarily from the Katy Triathlon at Firethorne and the Children's Film Festival that are both hosted annually in the late summer and early fall by the Rotary Club of Katy for the benefit of the Katy Rotary Fund.

Thanks to Rebecca Blackmon from Tradition Bank. Once again she chaired and pulled off a great Toy Drive.  The Rotary Club of Katy always pulls together in times of need,  helping others is what its all about!  Thank you Rebecca, and thanks to all who gave, dropped off, picked up, shopped, wrapped, organized and delivered the toys.  Merry Christmas to all!
